The short version
Sidequest has no accounts and no sign-up. We don't collect your name, email or runs. Your settings and past runs stay in your own browser on your own device.
What stays on your device
Your settings (units, body weight, light or dark, last activity) and your list of past runs are saved in your browser's local storage. They never leave your device. Clearing your browser's site data deletes them.
Your location
Only if you tap the location button or start run mode, your browser asks for permission to share your location. It is used on your device to set your start point and follow your run. It is not sent to us. The start point of a route is sent to the map services below to calculate routes.
Services your browser talks to
To draw maps and calculate routes, your browser contacts these services directly. Like any website, they receive your IP address and the request (for example, the area of the map or the start point of a route).
- OpenFreeMap: map tiles.
- FOSSGIS Valhalla server: route calculation.
- Photon by komoot: place search.
- Overpass API: water points, toilets and stops.
- Wikipedia and Wikivoyage (Wikimedia Foundation): landmark descriptions.
- jsDelivr, unpkg and cdnjs: software libraries. Google Fonts: fonts.
Links to Google Maps and Spotify open those services, under their own privacy policies.
